High-Quality To-Do's to Spend Your Free Time

- March 02, 2019

🕑4 mins reading time

During the transitioning of high school to university, Hui Yunn was given a huge chunk of free time between and after classes. Instead of spending it with only entertainment, she found these activities are enjoyable if done during free time. Plus, they are extra beneficial for her self-development. Hence, she would like to recommend you the 10 recommended high-quality to-do's to spend your free time!

1. Reading

It can be either a printed book or e-book, encyclopedia or leisure hobby. Reading books allows you to learn new things or at least new vocabulary! If you love to read fantasy stories then grab a novel, if you are interested in sewing then grab a sewing techniques tutorial book. As for my own, I love to read self-enrichment books and art&crafts related books. I always have a book with me wherever I go. Some people would prefer reading newspapers and magazines. They are good choices too. As long as you read something, there'll be things for you to learn.

2. Listen to Talk

Not only the traditional pay and attend talks in halls, you can now listen to talks through Youtube and podcast. Sometimes I feel tired to read books, so I would get my headphones and listen to the talks. Even a 10-minutes talk can give a boost to my mind. Motivational talks are the best when you feel depressed or unmotivated. On the other hand, listening to talks/podcasts helps to practice your listening skills too.

3. Mind Training Games

Most people would think of Sudoku.. Well, Sudoku is just one of it. There are various puzzle games and mind training games available for FREE in app store. Just give a few search (puzzle game/ mind training) and you will find some interesting games. Look for those that allows you to play offline, then you can play it anytime without looking for WiFi.

4. Watch Movies and Documentaries

If you have a two to three hours break, you can choose a movie or documentary to watch. To make full use of it, you can even take notes or make summary during or after you are done watching it.

5. Meditation

Give yourself time to rest and relax your mind and body, meditation helps you to have deep rest, a rest that you will only be focusing on your heartbeat and breathing. Well, I'm not a master in meditation, so I would recommend you to search on the internet for a detailed explanation and ways to meditate!

6. Clean and Tidy Up

Messy rooms, working space, computer, car, kitchen, toilet, etc. Clean them up one by one during your free time. You can use this chance to form a habit of keeping things clean too. After cleaning, you'll feel more energetic in the clean, new and beautiful environment that you have just created.

7. Spend Time With Friends and Family

Nothing is more worthy than spending time with our love ones. Grab all the chance to be with them and don't let yourself regret for spending too less time with them! Besides, you can also make use of your free time to get to know new friends around you. A sweet and short talk brighten one's day too. Although building new friendship seems to be complicated, but everyone in your life is either a lesson or a blessing. It sure brings more benefit than harm to have a new friend.

8. Workout

You might not go to the gym just to do workout, but a 1-minute plank, sit-ups or push-ups are effective workouts too. Look for simple and easy workout to do at home. Just a 10-minutes short workout everyday, you can feel the difference!

9. Do Something You Love

Spending time on things you love give you happiness. You can either learn a new skill or improve the skill you already possessed. Then you are spending your time to invest for the future as the skills you possessed will not be taken by anyone.

10. Look Around

If you happens to be at some places without WiFi connection, your phone's battery are dying and you have nothing in your bag, try looking around. What is the scenery around you? Is it full of trees? What kind of trees are they? Do they have flowers? I enjoy spending my free time looking around, what do people wear, how is the ceiling of the building look like, what is written on the notice board... Remember not to stare too long at people or you'll might get mistaken as crazy stalker or something. Although they say curiosity kills a cat, I jokingly told myself: "I'm not a cat, I'm human. So let's see if curiosity kills a human too."
